The Matrix

The Abhidharma College hosted Ven. Cicheng Khenpo to interpret a video specifically about The Matrix.

The best part is what His Holiness the Dalai Lama said, but that version of the movie commentary has been banned both domestically and internationally.

The Matrix is a completely religious movie. To understand religion, one must know a little about the concept of the Trinity, whether it's the Western concept of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, or the Buddhist concept of body, mind, and spirit, or the Taoist concept of essence, energy, and spirit.

How to balance and harmonize these three points, how to coexist, is a big problem. Many times, our body, mind, and spirit are attacking each other, just like the plot in The Matrix, where Zion attacks the Matrix, the Matrix attacks the machines, and the machines attack the people of Zion.

In Buddhism, machines are called Mahavairocana Buddha in the East, because light is a form of electromagnetic wave.

Machines are our spirit.

Zion is our body.

The Matrix is our mind.

The Matrix depicts the constant discussion in religion about how these three can stop fighting each other and reach a reconciliation, harmony, and coexistence.

It's not about destroying or leaving each other.

True liberation is reconciliation, balance, and the inability to leave any side.

Everything has one purpose: to attract your attention. Everything reflects one thing: these things do affect you, they can attract you, make you emotional, afraid, worried, fearful, anxious, and impatient.

Just like a Hollywood movie, a movie must have so many changes and thrilling plots to engage the audience.
